Scope of the Project
Renovation of domestic property in Edinburgh New Town. Ventrolla Scotland carried out repairs and performance improvement to 18 case and sash windows. The intricate glazing bars (astragals) had been cut out of the Georgian sashes and they had been reglazed with a single sheet of glass which destroyed the character of the building.
Sashworks Ltd established what would have been the original detailing of the sashesand made 31 new sashes to replace the ones that had been ruined. The new sashes were fitted by Ventrolla as part of the renovation process. The upper sashes have curved top rails with the glazing bar layout as shown above.
The fine profiles of Georgian sashes are not suitable for fitting large heavy panes of glass from both an aesthetic and a practical point of view. The damage done by a previous owner has now been repaired. The appearance and character of this elegant townhouse has been restored.
